In “Art Fundamentals”, you will be taught how to draw proportionate and accurate shapes in a compositionally pleasing manner. This is the cornerstone of any successful drawing and painting. Students will first copy a Bargue lithography in graphite. Charles Bargue was a French painter and lithographer, and his work is studied around the world to help students learn the basics of accurate and proportional drawing, whilst still maintaining a sense of sensitivity. We´ll then create and draw a simple still life, building on the skills from the previous exercise with a more complex subject. Drawing from life rather than photographic reference will encourage you to truly see and understand your subject and build a strong drawing method. Students will receive assignments with instructions and online demos. Students will join an online conference as a group on Saturdays, during which the teacher will provide specific coaching to each student.
“Figure Drawing” is for those of you who already have an understanding of the above topics. Within this course, you’ll start with some warm-up Bargue figure exercises in graphite before working on a final Master copy in charcoal. You will receive a reproduction of a figure drawn from life from the old academies of the 1800s. You´ll learn how to apply your knowledge most efficiently and effectively to create an accurate, proportionally correct, and beautiful piece of work, as well as prepare you for working from the live model. This course offers students the option to visit SARA for one to three weeks to take part in on-site training. Students will join an online conference as a group on Saturdays, during which the teacher will provide specific coaching to each student.

Extra and individual online critiques can be arranged for an additional cost of 1000 SEK/hour (800 SEK + moms)
LIVE FIGURE COURSE: During Fall 2026 it is possible to also join the figure class live at SARA in Simrishamn.
DATES: This can commence at different times during the regular term schedule, please email the SARA administration (info@sara-academy.se) for specific dates. You will draw the modell for 6 hours per day, Monday–Thursday as well as joining Friday classes and lectures.
