Still Life Painting with Isabel Koger
30th of June - 4th of July
Instructor: Isabel Koger
Time: 09.00 - 16.00, 12.00 - 13.00 Lunch

Included: All materials (oil paint, canvas, paintbrushes, palette, easel etc)
This workshop is for anyone who would like to focus on still life painting, it suits both beginners as well as more experienced painters. Regardless of what style and medium you are used to creating with, we will go through the basics of still life painting; from how to organise your palette and mixing colours, to how to apply the paint onto the canvas and how to build the painting like the old masters did. Isabel will guide you through it all, step by step, and paint alongside you. We will talk about things such as composition, the history of still life painting, complementary colours, values and material care.
Everything you need to participate in the workshop will be provided by the school. However, if you prefer to bring your own material you are most welcome to do so, it might be helpful as you are accustomed to them. Specifically brushes might be advisable to bring from your own materials.
Isabel is currently working as a painting and drawing instructor at SARA and has years of experience painting from life and exhibiting her work.
There are 8 spaces available in this workshop and students will work in our ateliers at SARA Academy. All materials are included, as well as an afternoon fika (typically consisting of a Swedish pastry/cake with tea/coffee).
Please note that if less than 4 students sign up for the workshop we will inform students at least one month before start and a full refund will be paid, otherwise the deposit is non-refundable.

Portrait Painting with Theodora Capat

In this 5-day workshop students will work from the live model, over an extended pose. They will discover a clear and straightforward way to approach painting the portrait, with an emphasis on structure, form, and light.
A portrait needs structure, gesture, and form to feel alive, we will go through the important steps and work towards achieving likeness in your portrait. You will leave this workshop with a more competent knowledge in portrait painting as well as a complete and painted portrait. We will achieve this through demonstrations and individual critiques, all information covered in this course will be thoroughly explained, and each artist will work towards meeting their individual goals. Depending on if you are a beginner in oil painting or an advanced painter, our instructor will adjust to your individual level.

Theodora is currently teaching on the three year program at SARA as well as exhibiting and painting in her studio in Kastellet, Vaxholm, Stockholm, where she also has private students.

Etching with Hans-Peter Szameit
30th of June - 4th of July
Instructor: Hans-Peter Szameit
Time: 09.00 - 16.00, 12.00 - 13.00 Lunch
Price: 9.500 SEK (including VAT and 1000 SEK non-refundable deposit)
Included: All materials
Learn the basics of the intaglio printing techniques of etching, dry point and aquatint, and use them to create your own etching from a copper plate. Participants will be guided through the process of etching all the way from the transferring the initial drawing to the copper plate, etching and inking the plate, to pulling the final print through the press by hand.
Hans-Peter Szameit, co-founder of SARA, will lead the workshop.
There are 8 spaces available in this workshop and students will work in our ateliers at SARA Academy. All materials are included, as well as an afternoon fika (typically consisting of a Swedish pastry/cake with tea/coffee).Materials are provided.
Materials included:
– Copper plate
– Paper for 20 prints (including proofs)
Additional copper plates and paper may be purchased at the school.
All other tools and materials necessary for etching are provided for use.
If you wish to make an etching from an existing drawing that you have created, please bring it to the workshop. Note: not all drawings may be suitable given the limited time and scope of the workshop. Ideally, drawings should be the same size or slightly smaller than the copper plate that is provided.
